In today’s delicate corporate ecosystem is there any more hideous employee on employee crime than being the victim of an old school lunch theft? On the flip side, have you no shame stealing all or some of a coworker’s carefully packed lunch knowing the odds of getting busted and exposed are not in your favor? Unfortunately the infamous lunch thief has been around since the beginning of office times and it looks like the breakroom refrigerator theft epidemic is getting worse before it gets better. Kudos to those overachievers who go the extra mile to thwart the dreaded lunch thief by lacing their tuna sandwich with cat food or chicken noodle soup with laxatives, we are impressed with your ingenuity while faced with such a cunning workplace adversary every Monday through Friday (with the exception of holidays, sick days, fake sick days, and PTO). At the end of the day is there any real sustainable solution to the rampant employee lunch crime spree or is it a permanent stain on work culture? It is this humble author’s opinion that there is in fact nothing that can be done to stop the lunch thief other than to join their crew effective immediately.
